Great Lakes Regional Tournament

Judge Recruitment

We are seeking attorneys and judges in the Buffalo, NY, and surrounding areas to participate in the American Mock Trial Association Regional Competition. The tournament will be taking place on Saturday, February 21st and Sunday, February 22nd, 2015.

Approximately 24-28 teams, consisting of 8-10 students, will be registered to participate in a legal competition. This year AMTA has written a civil case for teams to argue at the trial level. The competition consists of four rounds, two Saturday and two Sunday. There will be two to three judges per round, all who score the student attorneys and student witnesses but only one judge will preside and rule on objections and evidence submissions.

The tournament is structured as any trial level case: Beginning with pre-trial matters and then the plaintiff's and then defense's opening statements. Following that, is the plaintiff's case presentation followed by the defense's case presentation. After the defense rests, closing arguments are given.

The trial itself lasts between two to three hours per round.

Participating judges who are eligible will receive up to three free CLE credits.

Should you be interested in participating as a judge and would like more information, please contact Buffalo State's Tournament Coordinator directly:
